On April 30, 2025, the 5G-Testbed BB project, which had supported the implementation of Brandenburg’s 5G strategy in recent years, officially came to an end. Yet, the conclusion of this project also marked a clear starting point for what lies ahead.

As part of the 5G conference held at the premises of the Investitionsbank des Landes Brandenburg (ILB) in Potsdam, we – the IFII project office – presented, together with Brandenburg’s new Minister of Economic Affairs, Daniel Keller, a particularly forward-looking element of the state’s 5G communication efforts: the 5G chatbot.

This digital assistant is far more than a technological novelty. Integrated directly into the official website of Brandenburg’s 5G strategy, the chatbot uses a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) system to access all publicly available information related to the 5G-Testbed BB and the state’s strategy. This enables it to competently answer nearly any question about the project – while remaining up-to-date and adaptive.

Michaela Scheeg, Managing Director of IFII, introduced the chatbot to the public for the first time together with Minister Keller. Together, they emphasized that transparency and digital participation are central pillars of the strategy – and that this tool is a concrete example of how digital technologies can help make access to complex information more approachable.

The subsequent pitches from project partners vividly demonstrated just how vibrant the topic of 5G has become in Brandenburg. From industrial use cases to solutions for rural areas – it became clear: the 5G strategy has created a broad field of impact that is ready to grow even further.

For us at IFII, this meeting marks the end of an intensive project phase. As the project office, we had the opportunity to help shape many milestones and support our partners on their journey. Now, our focus turns to the future: How can we build upon the existing strategy? What new initiatives, use cases, and innovations will emerge from this foundation?

One thing is certain: 5G in Brandenburg is not a finished chapter – it is a dynamic field of innovation. And we look forward to continuing to help shape this journey in the future.
